Teenage Mutable Ninja Turtles

In the time-series world, compression often comes with caveats, and one of the most notable is immutability. In order to maintain high ingestion and compression rates databases let you write data once, forbidding updates to or backfilling of old data.

But that’s totally bogus, dudes.

Timescale is different, we know that mutability matters so we implemented it for compressed tables. Now you can UPDATE and DELETE old data to your heart’s content, as well as back-fill data into an already compressed table.

Cowabunga!
